Two-way symmetrical communication.

The recording is based on an interpretation of David Behrman’s seminal feedback work, Wave Train (1966), sixty years after he wrote the score. Sixty years into the destruction of our ecosystems, playing this piece feels less like riding the sea waves and more like riding at the precipice of ecological collapse as the situation is completely out of control. The track was composed with spectral editing techniques.
Technical description of the setup
Three guitar pickups with mono jacks are placed on the strings of an open grand piano. The mono jacks are connected to the inputs of three mono channels on a mixer. The mixer output is then connected to the input of a guitar amplifier placed face-up underneath the grand piano.
Playing method
Carefully adjust the volume and equalisation knobs on each mono channel to excite the feedback and walk the edge of its accumulation, riding the pure sine waves of the feedback along with their overtones. Expressive use of the unwanted sounds of audio feedback, occasionally, stirs the strings, making them rattle.
