A two-day workshop on modular synthesis with the VCV Rack simulator. The VCV simulator is an excellent tool for anyone who wants to learn about modular synthesis but doesn’t know where to start or has limited financial resources. In the workshop, we will learn about the basics of patching with three key processes in electroacoustic sound: pitch, timbre and amplitude. A voltage control oscillator generates a sound wave and controls its frequency, which determines the starting pitch by selecting the waveform (square, triangle, sawtooth). The module shapes the timber of the sound with a voltage control filter. The intensity of the sound and its change over time is shaped by the voltage control amplitude. The process enables a wide range of electroacoustic musical effects.
Date: 31 August – 1 September 2022, 17.00-21.00
Venue: Organised by Projekt Atol, at osmo/za, Ljubljana
Coordinator: Rea Vogrinčič
Participants need no prior knowledge of modular synthesis. Still, you must have a sufficiently powerful laptop with a minimum processor power of 2.7 GHz and a minimum memory of 8GB of RAM. They also need their personal headphones.
