The performance Light from the Outside is the result of several years of collaboration, training, and a persistent commitment to developing the artists’ own movement practices. The creative process continues and expands upon the dance performance Three Moons Looking at Our Planet (2025), in which certain tools became deeply integrated into a shared body, only to re-emerge in transformed ways in the new work, as the artists simultaneously built a new universe.
The work is a collective exploration of rhythm and an inhabiting of dance, sound, and light; a movement between a predetermined structure and the freedom of the moment, between the defined and the undefined, surrender and control, the animal and the human, personal perception and public space. The somatic approach serves as an anchor; drawing on the elasticity of connective tissues, movement meanders between images that are both unfamiliar and familiar, sublime and profane. Letting go, ebbing away, and grounding open up space for a relationship through which the two dancers embody themselves, seek closeness and create distance, shaping images within a parallel world on stage.
Just as poetry has a body of its own that lives and feels, so too does dance; it builds a language of its own, incomprehensible, clear, coded, one that draws you in while simultaneously pushing you away. Light from the Outside borrows its title from the poetry collection of the same name by poet Miljana Cunta. In this new dance work, the two dancers also draw inspiration from Slovenian women poets of the younger generation, who, in their search for their own language, likewise invite us through poetry to return to our own sensing, feeling bodies.
